SONIClear™ Bearing Edge

Mapex's SONIClear™ bearing edges allow the drumhead to sit flatter against the shell for improved contact, easier tuning and a more consistent response.

Master Tune Lugs

Compact Master Tune lugs minimise metal-to-wood contact, while an integrated locking mechanism helps maintain tuning stability during extended playing and performance.

Sonic Pedestal Feet

The floor tom legs are isolated from direct ground contact by Mapex's Sonic Pedestal feet, helping reduce vibration transfer and allowing the drum to resonate more freely.

Chamber Specific Design

Rather than using the same construction throughout the kit, Mapex alters shell thickness, depth, bearing edges and SAS ring configuration as the drum diameter increases. This allows each individual drum to be designed around its own tonal role within the kit.

Air Flow Venting

Air vents are positioned along the nodal line with the lugs to minimise their effect on shell resonance. Different combinations of vent holes are used across the toms and bass drum as part of the chamber-specific design.

SAS Static 90° Floor Tom Legs

The SAS Static 90° floor tom leg is designed to reduce the direct path of vibration into the floor, helping the floor tom retain more sustain and resonance.

Halo Mounting System

The Halo Mounting System uses a lateral, under-lug suspension design to isolate the rack toms while allowing the shells to vibrate more freely for a more open and natural tone.

Halo Mounting System – Sustain Adjustment

A rubber gasket and adjustable control knob allow the amount of shell resonance to be altered. Tightening the knob reduces sustain for a shorter decay, while backing it off produces a more open response, giving players a useful degree of acoustic control before microphones or processing are introduced.

SAS Attenuating Floor Tom Leg™

The adjustable SAS Attenuating Floor Tom Leg™ allows the angle of the leg to be altered to change how much vibration is transferred into the floor. This provides a mechanical way of controlling floor tom sustain without relying entirely on external dampening.

SAS Ring System

The Black Panther Design Lab SAS Ring System uses reinforcement rings as part of the overall acoustic design rather than simply for shell reinforcement. Their position and thickness vary depending on the drum and are incorporated into the bearing-edge profile.

By adding additional material around specific areas of the shell, the system is designed to contribute extra low-end, projection and tonal focus while allowing each drum to retain its own chamber-specific character.
