Choosing a Roland Electronic Drum Kit
Roland V-Drums range from compact rack-based electronic kits to acoustic-style instruments for professional recording and live performance. The right choice depends on your available space, required noise level, pad sizes, module features and whether you prefer a conventional rack or full drum shells and stands.
Which Roland V-Drums range should you choose?
- V-Drums 3 Series: compact kits such as the TD313 and TD316, designed for home practice, learning and recording without taking up the space of an acoustic-style kit.
- V-Drums 5 Series: models such as the TD513 and TD516 add more advanced pads, connectivity and module control for experienced home, studio and performance use.
- V-Drums 7 Series: flagship rack-based kits including the TD713 and TD716, with Roland’s highest-level modules, digital pads, detailed sound editing and extensive recording and live connections.
- V-Drums Acoustic Design: VAD kits use acoustic-style shells and conventional stands for a familiar layout and stronger stage presence. They require more room, and items such as the throne, pedal, snare stand or hi-hat stand may be separate, so check each package carefully.
- Quiet Design: the Roland VQD106 is built specifically to reduce pad, pedal and floor-transmitted playing noise, making it particularly useful for flats, shared homes and late-night practice.
Even quieter electronic kits are not completely silent. Compare the kick and hi-hat mechanisms as well as the drum pads, and always check what is included before comparing prices: headphones, amplification, a stool and some conventional hardware may need to be added.
