There's a yellow Tama in the showroom that stops people in their tracks, and if you know Metallica you'll know exactly why. It's the electric yellow of Lars Ulrich's 72 Seasons tour kit, and that look is now available in a kit you can actually own.

A bit of backstory: Lars and Tama have worked together since 1984. To mark 40 years in 2024, Tama built the Lars Ulrich 40th Anniversary Signature kit in Starclassic Maple, finished in that custom yellow with gloss black hardware and carrying Lars' autograph. Only 72 were made worldwide, one for each of the 72 Seasons. Unless you track one down second-hand, that kit is long gone. This Imperialstar is how everyone else gets the look.

And Tama didn't just spray an Imperialstar yellow and leave it there. The tom holder base is gone and a double tom stand added, so the rack toms set up exactly the way Lars does, and the twin 22" bass drums give you that proper metal stance. The shells are 100% poplar, six-ply and 8mm, for a full, warm tone with a medium attack, and even the bass drum hoops are wood, finished to match. It's a full seven-piece, double-bass setup with all the hardware included.

We've re-headed every drum with a pro Remo upgrade worth over £250, fitted free and in keeping with Lars' own heads: Emperor Coated on the toms, Controlled Sound Coated on the snare, and SMT Emperor Ebony on the bass drums.
