Storing and transporting drum gear is essential. Drums, cymbals, and hardware are valuable, and good drum bags or drum kit cases keep everything in top condition. Protection Racket has become a trusted choice because their cases balance toughness with practicality, so you can move your kit easily and keep it safe.

Why Choose Protection Racket?
Protection Racket has built a reputation for strength, reliability, and ease of use. The outer Racketex shell is hard-wearing and resistant to scuffs and moisture; stitching is reinforced, and oversized zips are used throughout. Inside, most ranges use a soft Propile fleece lining that cushions shells and prevents scratches. The designs are consistent across the catalogue.
The main drum-case ranges are:
-
Nutcases: the most affordable option—lightweight, simple, and functional. No fleece lining.
-
Proline drum cases: designed for professional use with soft fleece lining and a wide choice of sizes. Also available as complete drum case sets.
-
AAA drum cases (Access All Areas): semi-rigid construction for the highest level of protection in the range.
Protection Racket also produces cymbal cases, hardware cases, and snare cases, so you can cover your entire setup with one brand.
Drum Cases
Protection Racket drum kit cases are available for every common drum size, from small rack toms to large bass drums. Each drum bag is clearly labelled, and the egg shaped design with full-length zips makes loading and unloading quick.
The fleece lining on Proline and AAA cushions shells and prevents scratches, while the tough outer absorbs knocks during transport. Even large bass drum cases remain relatively lightweight, which helps when lifting in and out of cars or venues.
Many drummers start with a snare case and bass drum case, then add tom cases. Others choose a full drum set case bundle so every drum is covered consistently. Pre-made drum case sets are offered in Nutcases and Proline.
Nutcases
Nutcases are the most affordable Protection Racket drum bags. They use the same tough outer material as the other series, but they do not include the fleece lining. That keeps weight and price down while still guarding against bumps and scuffs.
They’re available individually and as full drum kit case sets, which makes them a practical way to cover a whole kit without the cost of Proline or AAA.
Here at Graham Russell Drums, we find Nutcases a suitable option for beginner and mid-range kits. They will get your drums safely to gigs and are excellent for storage. For heavier and more frequent use we suggest stepping up to Proline drum cases, but for cheaper kits, storage, and the occasional gig, Nutcases are ideal. You can still use them regularly and professionally in our experience; they simply lack the soft lining that adds another layer of protection.
Proline Drum Cases
Proline drum cases are a flagship Protection Racket drum bag range. The fleece lining protects against scratches, while the rugged outer and strong zips handle daily use. Sizes cover everything you would expect, and you can buy pre-made drum case sets for full kits. Rounded shapes and full-length zips make loading simple, and padded handles are comfortable to carry.
Here at Graham Russell Drums, every staff member owns a Protection Racket Proline drum case set. They offer the best balance of easy-to-use soft drum kit cases with the right amount of fleece protection. Because they’re soft, they can nest and squash down when not in use—at a gig, in a studio, at home, or in the car. They’re not the cheapest, but they’re the functional professional drummer’s top choice. If you need more structure for heavy touring, look at AAA drum cases. For easy, storable, and protective drum kit cases, Proline is our best seller to staff and customers alike.
AAA Drum Cases
The AAA drum case range is the most protective series. A semi-rigid frame adds structure, working with the fleece lining to resist impacts and prevent scratches. The outer shell is durable and the hardware is built for repeated loading.
AAA drum bags cover a wide set of sizes and suit regular gigging, tour schedules, and van or trailer transport where extra protection helps.
Here at Graham Russell Drums, we view AAA drum cases as the strongest and most protective option. If you need something bomb-proof, flight-proof, and touring-van-proof, nothing safeguards a kit better. The AAA Cymbal Vault is available for maximum protection. Graham owns a full AAA drum case set for his own drums, and we recommend AAA for the very highest-level kits such as Yamaha PHX or Tama Star. Not every drummer needs this level, but if you want peace of mind in tough environments, AAA is the range to choose.
Graham also finds AAA drum cases extremely fast for packing up. Soft drum kit cases can fold and sometimes catch on bass drum spurs or tom brackets, which takes a little extra time when loading. Because AAA cases are rigid, they hold their shape and allow drums to drop straight in without fuss. For Graham, efficiency is just as important as protection, and AAA provides both. The only trade-off is storage, since semi-rigid walls take up more space when the drums are out.
Cymbal, Hardware, Stick, and Percussion Cases
Protection Racket also covers the rest of a drummer’s setup.
Cymbal cases are available in standard and deluxe versions, typically in 22-inch and 24-inch sizes. Deluxe adds extra padding and comfort handles. For maximum protection there is an AAA Cymbal Vault. Carry options include a shoulder strap, backpack straps, and wheeled cymbal bags.
Hardware cases come in carry and wheeled designs, with sizes from compact 28-inch hardware bags up to large 54-inch wheeled hardware cases. Smaller bags suit a few stands and a pedal. The largest wheeled hardware cases can handle a full hardware load. An economy hardware bag is available for lighter use and rehearsals.
Here at Graham Russell Drums, we recommend choosing a hardware case with wheels if you carry multiple stands and pedals. Both options exist, but wheels make moving the heaviest part of a kit far easier.
Stick bags come in a few formats, from compact stick bags that hold a couple of pairs to large deluxe stick bags that carry multiple sticks, brushes, mallets, and accessories.
Percussion cases include covers for cajons, djembes, congas, bongos, and other hand percussion. There are also electronics bags for sample pads, mixers, and laptops.
Building Your Set
Here at Graham Russell Drums, we always recommend starting with your breakables. Breakables traditionally mean cymbals and snare, and often include a bass drum pedal. These are the items most drummers carry to gigs, rehearsal rooms, pubs, and shared spaces, since venues often provide stands and a kit.
Recommended starting points include:
Once breakables are covered, look at tom cases and bass drum cases. Many players add these gradually. Others buy a full drum set case bundle for consistent protection from day one. Protection Racket offers full drum case sets in Nutcases and Proline, and every size is available individually, so you can build at your own pace.
For hardware, choose a wheeled hardware case if you carry multiple stands and pedals. If you travel by car, several smaller hardware bags can be easier to pack. If you tour with a van or trailer, larger wheeled or AAA drum kit cases can be the better match.
Sizing Guide and Ordering
Protection Racket labels each drum kit case by the drum size it’s designed for. Measure diameter and depth, then select the matching drum bag. Cymbal cases follow the same idea with 22-inch and 24-inch options.
Here at Graham Russell Drums, we recommend keeping in mind that Protection Racket drum bags are made slightly oversized. This allows room for protruding hardware like bass drum spurs, floor tom brackets, tom mounts, and larger snare strainers. If you prefer a snugger fit on certain drums, choose the case marked for the next shallower depth. For example, if your snare is 14 × 6.5, select the Protection Racket 14 × 5.5 Snare Drum Case for a closer fit.
When you measure your drums, always measure the shell diameter and shell depth only. Do not include the hoops. Protection Racket already allows for this extra length across all their drum kit cases.
Another tip when using soft drum bags: place the drum on the floor and pull the case over the drum, rather than lowering the drum into the case. This avoids catching the edges on spurs, strainers, or brackets. With rigid AAA drum cases this isn’t an issue, as the structure holds its shape for quick loading.
