Choosing a Yamaha DTX Electronic Drum Kit
Yamaha DTX electronic drum kits cover everything from compact beginner setups to professional instruments for recording and live performance. When comparing the range, consider the module, pad material, kick and hi-hat setup, footprint and any hardware you may need to add.
Which Yamaha DTX range should you choose?
- DTX402 series: designed for beginners, lessons and home practice, with straightforward sounds and built-in coaching functions. The compact DTX402K uses a quieter beaterless kick controller, while the DTX432K, DTX452K and DTX482K use a kick pad and mechanical pedal for a more conventional playing action.
- DTX6 series: a step up to the DTX-PRO module, deeper sound editing, improved cymbal behaviour and a setup suited to committed learners, home recording and rehearsals.
- DTX8 series: larger pads and acoustic-style drum shells, with mesh or Yamaha TCS playing surfaces available depending on the model. These kits suit experienced players wanting a more substantial setup.
- DTX10 series: Yamaha’s flagship DTX range, built around the DTX-PROX module with advanced editing, routing and connectivity for professional studio and live use.
An electronic kit is much quieter than an acoustic kit, but pad impact, pedals and floor vibration remain audible. Also check exactly what is supplied: a drum stool, headphones, monitor, hi-hat stand or bass drum pedal may need to be purchased separately.
