Yamaha DTX402K Electronic Drum Kit
The Yamaha DTX402K is a compact, beginner-friendly electronic drum kit designed to help new drummers develop timing, coordination and technique. It combines durable rubber drum pads with an easy-to-use sound module, built-in coaching functions and a space-saving rack that works particularly well for lessons and home practice.
For anyone looking for a first electric drum set, the DTX402K offers a straightforward starting point without taking over the room. Its KU100 foot-operated kick unit also creates less physical noise than a conventional kick tower and bass drum pedal, making this e-kit particularly useful where floor vibration needs to be kept under control.
Playability & Drum Pads
The compact steel rack is lightweight, foldable and adjustable, allowing the snare, tom and cymbal pads to be positioned for a comfortable playing posture. The electronic drum set includes four 7.5" rubber drum pads alongside separate 10" hi-hat, crash and ride pads.
The crash cymbal supports choking, while the ride can produce a bell sound when played firmly. The DTX402K uses a single-zone snare pad, so separate rimshot and cross-stick triggering requires the three-zone Yamaha TP70S supplied with the DTX452K.
Sounds, Training & Apps
The DTX402 module provides 10 fully editable drum kits and 287 drum and percussion voices. This gives beginners a useful selection of acoustic and electronic drum sounds while keeping operation clear and accessible.
Ten built-in Training Modes include Pad Gate, Rhythm Gate, Groove Check and Fast Blast. These exercises work on timing, dynamics, consistency and speed, with scoring available to help players monitor their progress.
Yamaha’s free DTX402 Touch app for iOS and Android provides visual control over kit sounds, module settings and training exercises. Its Challenge Mode adds a game-style structure to practice and allows players to earn a Yamaha Drummer’s Certificate after completing the challenge. A compatible USB cable and device adaptor may be required.
Recording & Connectivity
The module’s USB TO HOST connection carries digital audio and MIDI, allowing the electronic drums to connect to a computer or supported smart device for recording and music production. Yamaha’s Rec’n’Share app can also be used to record synchronised audio and video performances.
An AUX IN connection allows players to practise along with music, while the combined PHONES/OUTPUT socket can be connected to headphones for private practice or an electronic drum amplifier when the kit needs to be heard in the room.
