Information

The DW Design Series Limited Edition 22" 4-Piece Drum Kit, Natural Mapa Burl is now available with us at Graham Russell Drums.

For the first time, DW brings a premium Exotic veneer to the Design Series with this limited edition shell pack. Highly figured Mapa Burl covers 8-ply European birch shells, finished in an understated natural matte lacquer that showcases the wood’s distinctive grain. This four-piece configuration features a 22x16" undrilled bass drum, 10x7" and 12x8" rack toms, and a 16x16" floor tom. The two-up, one-down layout offers a useful spread of pitches, pairing responsive rack toms with a full-bodied floor tom and punchy bass drum.

DW’s patented HVLT (Horizontal Vertical Low Timbre) grain-orientation technology combines horizontal and vertical plies to shape the response of the European birch shells. The result is a pronounced attack, a warm, punchy fundamental and controlled resonance, providing definition without losing body. The shallower rack toms offer a quick response and practical positioning, while the full-depth floor tom adds weight to fills and lower-register patterns. Together, these qualities make the kit adaptable to recording, rehearsals and live performances.

Low-mass mini-turret lugs complement the figured veneer, while graduated triple-flange hoops and True-Pitch tuning provide the fittings and adjustment expected from the Design Series. STM (Suspension Tom Mounts) support the rack toms while allowing the shells to resonate freely. The undrilled bass drum has no tom-holder mount, allowing the rack toms to be positioned using separately purchased mounting hardware. Remo heads complete the drums, and an included two-piece bass drum pillow set provides a practical way to control sustain and refine the bass drum’s response.
