The Sterling Crash Ride is Istanbul Agop's collaboration with acclaimed studio drummer Aaron Sterling, whose credits include John Mayer and Taylor Swift. The brief was a cymbal that feels distinctly modern but stays rooted in classic 1960s cymbal sounds, and the result is a genuine crash-ride built to do both jobs properly. As with every Istanbul Agop cymbal, it is hand-hammered from B20 bronze, so the modern voicing sits on a traditional Turkish foundation.

At 22 inches this is the darker and more powerful of the two Sterling sizes, with a stronger, more assertive character that leans further into rock and heavier playing than the 20 inch model. The bell delivers a powerful, transparent tone with a dark sustain, and projection is excellent, giving you real drive under a full band. As a crash it opens with a full attack that still responds quickly for the size, and when pushed harder it delivers a genuinely huge, controlled explosion of sound, more than capable of holding its own against a loud stage or cranked amps. Ridden, the sustain stays controlled with a mellow, slightly dark wash beneath the stick, so it holds a defined pattern rather than washing out, and the wide dynamic range still comes through at lower volumes and with mallets.

Next to its 20 inch counterpart, the 22 has a more pronounced ride character, opens a little more gradually as a crash, and sits darker overall, making it the choice when you want more weight and low end from the pairing.
