The Yamaha DFP9D is the direct-drive model in Yamaha’s flagship FP9 series, designed to deliver a fast, precise and highly responsive double bass drum pedal platform. Instead of a chain or strap, the pedal uses a rigid direct drive linkage, creating an immediate transfer of motion from the footboard to the beater with minimal mechanical lag. This design produces a highly articulate response and a very consistent feel throughout the stroke. The pedal also features Yamaha’s Quick Adjusting Cam / Link, allowing the cam position to be set in three different positions to alter the pedal’s response and resistance curve while maintaining the accuracy and sensitivity of the direct drive system.

The FP9 series incorporates several mechanical refinements designed to improve stability and smoothness of operation. Yamaha’s axle stabilising bearing chamber helps maintain precise alignment between the shaft and bearings, reducing friction and supporting smoother rotation through the pedal stroke. Beater angle and footboard angle can be adjusted independently, allowing players to reproduce preferred setups accurately using the integrated angle indicator. The pedal is supplied with weight-adjustable beaters, including interchangeable aluminium (3 g) and brass (9 g) weights that allow players to modify the pedal’s feel and attack. The secondary pedal connects via an all-bearing universal joint drive shaft for smoother slave pedal motion, while anti-skid heel spikes and a secondary pedal anchor help keep the unit firmly positioned during performance. The pedal is supplied with a Yamaha semi-hard carrying case for safe storage and transport.
