The Yamaha DFP9CL is the left-footed configuration of Yamaha’s flagship FP9 series double bass drum pedal, designed so the main pedal sits on the left with the slave pedal operated from the right. It uses a durable double chain drive system paired with Yamaha’s adjustable Quick Adjusting Cam / Link, allowing the cam position to be shifted between three settings to alter the tension curve and overall pedal response. This system enables players to fine-tune how resistance builds through the stroke while retaining the familiar feel and durability associated with a traditional chain-driven pedal.
The pedal incorporates several engineering refinements developed for the FP9 series to improve smoothness and stability. Yamaha’s axle stabilising bearing chamber maintains precise alignment between the shaft and bearings to reduce friction and support smoother rotation, while the low-profile stabilising hinge ensures consistent footboard movement. Beater angle and footboard angle can be adjusted independently, with an integrated angle indicator helping players accurately recreate their preferred setup. Each beater is weight-adjustable, supplied with interchangeable aluminium (3 g) and brass (9 g) weights to modify pedal feel and attack. The secondary pedal connects through an all-bearing universal joint drive shaft for smoother linkage, while anti-skid heel spikes and a secondary pedal anchor help keep the pedals stable during performance. The pedal is supplied with a Yamaha semi-hard carrying case for storage and transport.
