The Yamaha DFP9C is the chain-drive model in Yamaha’s flagship FP9 series, designed to provide a highly adjustable and mechanically precise double bass drum pedal platform. It uses a double chain drive system paired with Yamaha’s Quick Adjusting Cam / Link, allowing the cam position to be moved between three settings to alter the pedal’s response and tension curve through the stroke. This lets players fine-tune how quickly resistance builds during the motion of the pedal while retaining the familiar feel of a traditional chain-driven design. The frame incorporates Yamaha’s axle stabilising bearing chamber, which aligns the shaft and bearings precisely to reduce friction and maintain a smooth rotational movement throughout the pedal action.

The FP9 design focuses heavily on mechanical refinement and adjustment. Beater angle and footboard angle can be adjusted independently, making it easy to recreate preferred settings using the integrated angle indicator. The pedal also features ball-bearing drive connections, a low-profile stabilising hinge for smoother footboard motion, and an auto-lock spring tension adjustment system that allows spring tension to be changed quickly without loosening during playing. Each beater is weight-adjustable, supplied with interchangeable aluminium (3 g) and brass (9 g) weights that can be fitted to change the pedal’s feel and attack. The secondary pedal uses an all-bearing universal joint drive shaft for smoother linkage between pedals, while anti-skid heel spikes and a secondary pedal anchor help keep the unit stable during performance.
