The Sonor AQX 20” Studio Drum Kit is a compact acoustic drum kit package designed for beginner and developing drummers who want a smaller setup without moving to a miniature or junior-sized kit. With poplar shells, Sonor 1000 Series hardware and a B8 bronze cymbal set included, the AQX Studio offers a practical route into acoustic drumming for lessons, home practice, rehearsals and smaller playing spaces.

The main difference between the AQX Studio and the larger AQX Stage is the bass drum and floor tom sizing. The Studio version uses a 20” x 16” bass drum and 14” x 13” floor tom, giving the kit a slightly smaller footprint than the 22” Stage setup. This makes it a good option for younger players, home setups, teaching rooms and rehearsal spaces where a full-size 22” bass drum may feel too large.

Sonor’s AQX Series includes several details that help make the kit reliable for new players. The AQ cast lugs include Sonor’s TuneSafe system, which is designed to help prevent detuning during regular playing. That is particularly useful on a beginner or student kit, where tuning stability can make the kit easier to live with between lessons and practice sessions.

The shells are made from 9-ply, 7.2mm poplar. Sonor describes poplar as a widely used drum shell material with more mid-to-low frequencies and a softer attack than harder woods such as maple, birch or beech. In practical terms, that gives the AQX Studio a warm, controlled sound that works well for general-purpose playing. The 20” bass drum gives a punchier and slightly more focused feel than the larger 22” Stage model, which can suit smaller rooms and lower-volume playing especially well.

The AQX Studio is supplied with Sonor’s HS 1000 hardware set, DTH 2000 double tom holder and B8 cymbal set. The hardware set includes two cymbal stands, a snare stand, hi-hat stand and single bass drum pedal, while the cymbal pack includes 14” hi-hats, a 16” crash and a 20” ride. This gives new players the key parts of a usable acoustic kit package while keeping the setup straightforward and easy to understand.
