The Sonor AQX 18” Jazz Drum Kit is a compact shell set designed for drummers who want a smaller acoustic setup without losing the feel of a proper drum kit. With an 18” bass drum, 12” rack tom, 14” floor tom and 13” snare drum, the AQX Jazz configuration is well suited to smaller venues, rehearsal rooms, teaching spaces, home practice and transport-friendly setups.

Unlike the AQX Stage and Studio packages, the AQX Jazz is supplied as a shell set. This makes it a strong choice for players who already own cymbals, stands and pedals, or for drummers who want to build a compact kit around their preferred hardware. Sonor includes the CTH 4000 cymbal/tom holder, allowing the rack tom and a cymbal to be mounted from the bass drum for a neat, practical setup.

The shells are made from 9-ply, 7.2mm poplar. Poplar is a widely used drum shell material and produces a warm, controlled tone with more mid-to-low frequency response and a softer attack than harder woods such as maple, birch or beech. On a compact kit like this, that helps the drums feel balanced and usable across lighter styles, acoustic gigs, jazz, funk, pop and general-purpose playing.

The 18” x 14” bass drum is the main reason to choose the AQX Jazz over the smaller Jungle version. It offers a fuller low-end response while still being easier to move and position than a traditional 20” or 22” bass drum. The 12” and 14” tom combination gives the kit a familiar spread around the drums, making it suitable for players who want compact sizes but still prefer a natural acoustic kit layout.

Sonor’s AQ cast lugs include the TuneSafe system, designed to help prevent the drums from detuning during regular playing. The AQX Jazz also features 45° bearing edges, SONOR Prism Clamp tom mounting and natural wood bass drum hoops, giving the kit a smart, compact look with dependable Sonor design throughout.
