The Sonor AQ2 16" Safari Shell Maple Drum Kit is the compact option in the AQ2 shell set range, designed for drummers who want a portable acoustic setup without dropping down to a toy-like or practice-only kit. With a 16" bass drum, 10" rack tom, 13" floor tom and matching 13" snare, the Safari is ideal for tight stages, home practice, teaching rooms, acoustic gigs and easy transport.

The AQ2 Series uses 100% maple shells made from a combination of Canadian and Chinese maple. Sonor describes the AQ2 sound as mellow, warm and balanced, with low-frequency punch and a balance of mids and highs. On a compact kit like the Safari, that maple shell character helps the smaller drum sizes stay musical, controlled and usable rather than thin or boxy.

The 16" x 15" bass drum is the key feature here. It gives the kit a much smaller footprint than the 20" Studio or 22" Stage versions, while still offering a genuine acoustic bass drum feel. This makes the Safari particularly useful for drummers who regularly move their kit, play in smaller venues, or need a second kit that is easy to set up quickly.

Sonor includes the CTH 4000 cymbal/tom holder, allowing the rack tom and a cymbal to be mounted from the bass drum. That keeps the setup compact and reduces the amount of separate hardware needed on smaller stages. The Smart Mount suspension system helps the tom resonate, while the AQ single lugs with TuneSafe help maintain tuning stability during regular playing.
