The Sonor AQ2 16" Safari Drum Kit – Brown Fade is now available with us at Graham Russell Drums!

The Sonor AQ2 Safari configuration is designed for players who need a compact, portable drum kit without sacrificing the warm, balanced tone that maple shells provide. The AQ2 series uses 100% maple shell construction, delivering a smooth tonal response with controlled sustain, strong projection and reliable tuning stability, making it well suited to small gigs, studio work and rehearsal environments.

The rack toms, floor tom and snare drum are built from 7-ply maple shells (approx. 7.2mm thickness), allowing the drums to resonate freely while maintaining clarity and articulation. The 16" x 15" bass drum uses a 9-ply maple shell (approx. 8.5mm thickness), giving the drum additional structural strength and helping produce a fuller low-end response despite its compact size.

The 16" bass drum delivers a surprisingly punchy and focused low end, making it ideal for tighter stage spaces and lower-volume performance situations. The 10" x 7" rack tom provides quick attack and articulate response, while the 13" x 12" floor tom adds warmth and depth to the overall kit sound. A 13" x 6" maple snare drum completes the configuration, offering a crisp and versatile snare voice suitable for a wide range of musical styles.

The kit includes Sonor’s CTH 4000 cymbal/tom holder, which mounts directly to the bass drum and allows a cymbal and rack tom to be positioned from a single mounting point. This keeps the setup compact and efficient while still offering flexible positioning. The AQ2 series also features Sonor’s SmartMount suspension system, designed to minimise shell contact and maximise resonance.

Finished in Brown Fade lacquer, the AQ2 Safari kit combines Sonor’s modern hardware design with a striking fade finish, creating a visually distinctive compact drum setup suitable for stage, studio or rehearsal use.
