All the sonic versatility of Maple and Aluminium in one breakthrough shell design.

After two years of relentless development led by John Good, DW SonicPly combines aircraft-grade aluminium with an American Maple shell for enhanced attack and articulation, offering warm tonality and focused sustain.

Hybrid Metal / Maple Shells

10" - 24" SonicPly drums feature a 9-Ply 333™ Maple shell with a 1/36" Aluminium sheet replacing the middle ply. SonicPly snare drums feature a 12-Ply Maple shell with two 1/36" Aluminium Sheets sandwiching the middle plies.

Bearing Edge

These Collector’s Series shells are precision-cut with 45-degree (toms) and 60-degree (bass and snare) bearing edges. These edges provide tonality and sustain from your toms, and depth and punch from your bass and snare.

Sound Comparison

Compared to the neutral tone of a Pure Maple 333 drum shell, the SonicPly shell produces a higher pitch, brighter tone, and shorter sustain. Combining the warm resonance of Maple with the dry attack of Aluminium results in a bright and resonant but controlled and consistent drum sound perfect for touring and studio drummers alike.
